now is the time!
building fund update
The building committee has been working hard to find options that keep our efforts to construct a new sanctuary moving forward. There is much happening and we anticipate a flurry of activity to begin shortly. The good news is our efforts to raise funds for this project is still on track. Our first campaign effort pledges to raise almost $650,000 in our first three years. The problem we face is that each year we delay building, inflation will raise the price of the project anywhere from 3% to potentially 10% or more. It seems that waiting for the money to come in before building could be a losing prospect. Our project is currently estimated to cost about $1.3 million dollars. A five percent increase due to inflation would add $65,000 to that cost in just the first year. That inflationary total goes up each subsequent year that we wait.
Clearly, we need to begin building as soon as possible to address the negative impact caused by inflation. Along those lines the committee has begun exploring financing options that would allow us to start the project sooner, maybe as soon as this upcoming spring. Our architect tells us that if ground breaking began as soon as March we could possibly be in our new building as early as the following Christmas. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful time of year to dedicate a new sanctuary? However, this would require us to secure a construction loan. We are currently interested in pursuing this through the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church’s Foundation program. The building committee cannot make this decision, however. We have to first be approved through the action of a church conference. We must decide to do this as a church together.
The committee would like to share information on this financing option with as many of you as possible. We have scheduled two meeting times for everyone’s convenience allowing you to choose which of the meetings best fit your schedule. The first meeting is Sunday, October 25 at 10:30 in Wesley Hall. The second meeting will be October 28, at 5:30 pm in Wesley Hall. We would love to see all of you at one or the other of these two meetings.
